Social Ministry Month continues. Each weekend in October, our open plate offerings will go to support a different cause. This weekend supports the pastor’s discretionary fund, which is used to provide aid for individuals in need. Typical use is a night’s lodging for someone without a place to stay or a gas card for someone needing to get to a doctor. Assistance with rent or utilities is often beyond the scope of the fund, but we have contributed to multi-church efforts to help a family with such needs. Less commonly, but happens occasionally, is help with a prescription or steel-toed work shoes for someone who has been unemployed and has found a new job but does not have proper shoes.
